Southern Africa boasts many spectacular shells
from shallow to very deep water. The great variation in colour
and sculpture make these jewels of the sea very popular with
collectors. In the past information about these subtidal and
offshore shells was only presented in fragmented form in journals
and other scientific publications. This book, with its repertory
of about 780 species, subspecies and forms, for the first time,
brings them together in one publication.
This book compliments Marine Shells of South Africa by the
same authors.
Each shell is illustrated by a dorsal and ventral view, followed
by a short but informative description, distribution, depth,
size of the illustrated shell and rarity to assist in identification.
This book will appeal to all shell collectors, particularly
those who have collected most of the gastropods that inhabit
the beach and the intertidal zone of the region and wish to
extend their knowledge and collection to those mysterious
gems that occur in the deeper waters of the ocean.
